Investigative Services

The Franklin Police Department employs six police detectives, all under the direct supervision of a  police sergeant with additional oversight by a police captain.  Four detectives are assigned to general criminal investigations, and two are assigned to youth services.  In addition to handling all criminal and juvenile related investigations forwarded from the Patrol Division, they initiate investigations received directly from complainants/victims, are involved in various crime prevention, child safety, and community policing programs, and conduct employment background investigations for potential new City employees.  They also participate in various investigative meetings with other agencies related to their assignments.

Franklin detectives have developed expertise in specialty areas related to their assignments. Detectives have received extensive training in processing crime scenes and collecting physical evidence, interviewing and interrogation, death/homicide investigation, sexual assault investigation, arson investigation, financial crimes investigation, computer crimes investigation, handwriting analysis/document examination, crime prevention, child abuse/neglect investigation, the Children's Code and the Juvenile Justice Code.  When practicable, detectives are assigned cases that compliment their area(s) of expertise.
