At full staffing, the Franklin Police Department Investigative Services Bureau includes six (6) Detectives directly supervised by a Sergeant. The Investigative Services Bureau Detectives investigate criminal offenses that occur in the City of Franklin and in Milwaukee County. Detectives are scheduled to 8-hour work shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and work five days a week, Monday through Friday. Detectives follow a dedicated on-call schedule for night, weekend, and holiday coverage throughout the year.
All six detectives are assigned to general criminal investigations. In addition to handling all criminal and juvenile related investigations forwarded from the Patrol Division, they initiate investigations received directly from complainants/victims, are involved in various crime prevention, child safety, and community policing programs, and conduct employment background investigations for potential new City employees. They also participate in various investigative meetings with other agencies related to their assignments.
Franklin detectives have developed expertise in specialty areas related to their assignments. Detectives have received extensive training in processing crime scenes and collecting physical evidence, interviewing and interrogation, death/homicide investigation, sexual assault investigation, arson investigation, financial crimes investigation, computer crimes investigation, crime prevention, child abuse/neglect investigation, the Children's Code and the Juvenile Justice Code. When practicable, detectives are assigned cases that complement their area(s) of expertise.
