The Franklin Police Department’s Honor Guard Unit is comprised of officers who are highly motivated and maintain exceptionally high standards of appearance and conduct. The officers assigned to the unit specialize in drill and ceremonies, rifle manual, flag etiquette, and police funeral procedures. The Honor Guard also serves as the "guardians of the colors" by displaying and presenting the National flag on ceremonial occasions.
The primary role for an Honor Guard is to provide funeral honors for fallen officers. It is one of the most important responsibilities of a police honor guard unit to represent the department and the officer at a police funeral, whether active, retired, or in the line of duty. Their mission can be best codified with the following quote: “The very least we can do is do our very best.”
